Malawi hosts Southern Africa SACCOs

Minister of trade Sosten Gwengwe says Malawian SACCOs are key in alleviating various social economic challenges the country is facing. Gwengwe said this in Blantyre during the 2025 Southern Africa SACCOs Regional Forum held under the theme: Community development and growth through strengthening SACCO network system.

“Malawi has a fertile ground for the growth of SACCOs. The fact that United Civil Servants SACCO of Malawi has again emerged the fastest growing SACCO in Africa, speaks volumes of how government can collaborate with SACCOs to transform social economic lives of the citizenry.” said Gwengwe.

The Trade minister also emphasized government’s commitment in promoting supportive regulatory frameworks for SACCOS.

Executive director for African Confederation of Cooperative and Savings Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), an umbrella body that advocates for financial wellness through SACCOS, George Ombado, was quick to call upon millions of potential members in Southern African countries to join SACCOs and watch their social economic lives transforming to the better. Ombado then described Chief Executive Officers for MUSCCO Fumbani Nyangulu and United Civil Servants SACCO Francis Waliwa as transformative leaders whose expertise is positively contributing to the advancement of SACCO model in Southern Africa.
